The Arran Access Trust are recruiting a temporary Access Ranger!
This varied role will directly help with the management of people, pressures and associated outdoor services and facilities over this year’s busy summer season. The ranger will engage directly with the public and encourage responsible behaviour. They will complete practical maintenance tasks all over the island – ensuring that the island’s path network and other green spaces are in excellent condition. They may also be required to assist volunteer maintenance groups and lead guided walks. An e-bike will be available to conduct parts of this job where practical (don’t worry, we have a van for bigger loads!).
The Arran Access Trust (‘AAT’) manages the Arran Coastal Way (a National Long-Distance Trail) and Arran Geopark (an Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark). The ranger will have the opportunity to get involved in all areas of the AAT’s work and act as a public face for the charity.
Since inception in 1999, the AAT has evolved from a community group set up primarily to resolve issues between landowners and walkers to the leading access organisation on Arran taking a strategic approach to the management of access provision throughout the island.
Access is very important to Arran both for those who live on the island and as a key part of the island’s tourism industry. Much more can be done to make sure that access on the island works well for visitors, residents, and the farmers and owners who manage the land.
