Research

The geodiversity on Arran is wide-ranging and outstanding, with close links to James Hutton, ‘the father of modern geology’. In order to demonstrate the international value of our geology, we have provided the following bibliography of peer-reviewed (and other) international publications.

We cannot provide “open access” to these – please contact info@arran-geopark.org.uk to enquire regarding access to the documents listed. The bibliography can be downloaded here.

Recent research: from 2019-23 Arran has been a study site for 20 dissertations and theses, from BA/BSc to PhD, on a huge range of topics. During the same period there were 17 peer-reviewed publications written.

The following table lists recent research, publications and dissertations across many disciplines. Are you a student or researcher working on a project? We’d like to hear from you!
