Hutton's Unconformity near Lochranza is one of Scotland's most famous geological locations. Come and hear about James Hutton's visit to Arran in 1787, and find out how his observations changed scientific thinking forever.

You will need stout footwear and a waterproof jacket. Most of the walking in on roads and paths, but there will be some walking on the rocky shoreline.

Distance - 7.5km, mostly on good paths but with some walking on the rocky shore.

Meet at 13.30 at the King's Cave Forestry Commission car park (Grid ref 898 315). You will need stout footwear and waterproof clothing.

GeoWeek 2019 – Discover Hutton’s Unconformity

This short walk, led by the Arran Geopark Ranger, will visit the site where Scottish geologist James Hutton - the 'father of modern geology' - was able to prove his ideas about the nature of geological time and the age of the Earth. The walk is on roads and footpaths, with some stretches of shingle beach. Stout footwear and a waterproof jacket will be required.
